Chief of Mission (P) – Senior Leadership Role

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a senior leader to serve as Chief of Mission (CoM) for a country office. Reporting to the Director General, the Regional Director and, where applicable, the Resident Coordinator, the CoM will provide overall policy, administrative, programme and financial direction to ensure effective migration management and alignment with UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic country programme development, planning and results‑oriented implementation in close coordination with the Regional Office, Headquarters and Member States.
• Oversee policy application, programme delivery, financial management and administrative support for the Country Office.
• Represent IOM in high‑level UN and government forums, contributing to UN Sustainable Development goals and the 2030 Agenda.
• Drive resource mobilisation efforts, engaging multilateral, bilateral, national and local donors.
• Ensure compliance with IOM’s Management and Accountability Framework and UN system reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in migration, humanitarian or development programmes.
• Proven track record of managing large, multi‑disciplinary teams in an international setting.
• Deep understanding of UN processes, donor coordination and policy development.
• Strong leadership, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
