Resident Coordinator – Guinea-Bissau

About the role

The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the highest‑ranking United Nations development representative in Guinea‑Bissau. Reporting to the Secretary‑General, the RC leads the UN Country Team and ensures coordinated implementation of the UN Cooperation Framework and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the United Nations at senior government levels and foster engagement with civil society, bilateral and multilateral partners, academia and the private sector.
• Lead the UN Country Team in developing, monitoring and reporting on the UN Cooperation Framework, ensuring alignment with national priorities.
• Coordinate system‑wide UN support to the Government, facilitating integrated assistance across all UN development entities.
• Advocate for accelerated action on the Sustainable Development Goals and promote inclusive, poverty‑eradication strategies.
• Report annually to the host Government on system‑wide implementation of the UN Cooperation Framework.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in UN development coordination or comparable senior development leadership.
• Proven ability to engage high‑level government officials and diverse development partners.
• Deep understanding of the 2030 Agenda, Sustainable Development Goals, and UN cooperation mechanisms.
• Strong leadership and diplomatic skills to guide a multi‑agency country team.
