Civil Engineer

About the role

The Civil Engineer will lead the delivery of high‑quality infrastructure projects by providing technical expertise, supervising works, and ensuring compliance with design, safety, and HSSE standards. The role supports the Project Manager and technical team throughout the project lifecycle, from planning to handover.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, supervise and manage civil engineering projects from design to completion, ensuring alignment with requirements, timelines and budgets.
• Assist in preparing project plans, schedules, progress reports and closure activities.
• Liaise with government authorities, beneficiaries and other stakeholders to secure permits and maintain strong relationships.
• Review design briefs, technical documentation, bills of quantity and cost estimates for compliance with international standards and UNOPS guidelines.
• Conduct on‑site technical assessments, inspections and quality checks to verify that construction adheres to specifications.
• Evaluate technical submittals, progress reports and invoices, and recommend payment releases.
• Monitor performance tracking systems, identify potential delays or cost overruns, and support valuation of work for payment certificates.
• Ensure full compliance with UNOPS HSSE policies, environmental safeguards and PSEAH standards, and mitigate related risks.

Required profile

• Strong civil engineering background with proven experience in infrastructure project delivery.
• Ability to coordinate design, construction and procurement activities across multiple partners.
• Demonstrated competence in stakeholder engagement and securing necessary permits.
• Commitment to HSSE, environmental safeguards and protection from sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.
• Proactive resource management and ability to ensure transparency and integrity in all activities.
