Chief of Mission (Professional) – Expression of Interest

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a senior professional to serve as Chief of Mission (Professional) for its Country Office in Bissau, Guinea‑Bissau. The incumbent will lead the mission, ensuring policy, programme and financial coherence with IOM headquarters and the United Nations development framework.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and management of the Country Office, overseeing policy, administrative, programme and financial functions.
• Represent IOM to the Resident Coordinator and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework objectives.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with government authorities, donors, NGOs and other partners.
• Lead fundraising, public‑relations and advocacy activities to secure resources and promote IOM’s mission.
• Ensure compliance with the Management and Accountability Framework and internal governance standards.
• Supervise and mentor staff, fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Political or Social Science, International Relations, Business Administration or a related field with at least ten years of relevant professional experience, or a university degree with twelve years of experience.
• Significant experience in general management, project and resource management.
• Proven experience in diplomacy, fundraising, public relations and liaison with governmental and multilateral partners.
